Pirates are popular with children and turning a kids playhouse into a pirate’s hideout cove is easy to do. There are plenty of pirate movies and engrossing books like “Pirates Don’t Change Diapers” that kids have a hard time putting down. So, bring that trend to your family’s kids playhouse!

Try these awesome tips to bring the playhouse up to p-AARRHH:

1. Add a telescope to the window ledge or porch railing of the kids playhouse. For any sea-faring pirate, a telescope is a necessity. Imagine all the foreign lands your child will see! Of course, don’t forget watching out for approaching pirate ships or spying on others that may be after their treasure chest.

2. Fill up treasure chests in and around the kids playhouse. Pirate costumes and plastic or foam swords can fill up one treasure chest while another may be used as a drink or snack container. To create a drink container “treasure chest” purchase one of those foam travel chests from a local dollar store. Together, with your child, paint it and embellish to look like a real treasure chest. Fill it with ice, drinks, and fruit snacks! Of course, you can’t forget about having a treasure chest that holds all of the real “treasures”. Your child may get really creative and keep their favorite books, games, or trinkets in the treasure chest or they may go the more traditional route and keep fake jewelry, golden coins, and dazzling crowns.

3. A flag pole and pirate flag readily transforms a kids playhouse into a fierce and mighty pirate strong-hold. You can purchase a ready-made pirate flag or you can make one. Making a pirate’s flag is simple. Purchase an inexpensive black pillow and some white felt. Cut the pillowcase down to the desired flag size. From the white felt, cut out a skull and cross bones and glue it to both sides of the black pillow case. Now, string it up the flag pole and everyone will know to beware of pirates!

Your little pirate’s kids playhouse could be the talk of the neighborhood. You may even want to provide a water slide or water sprayer on the outside for those that have to “walk to the plank”. Have fun with it and let your children be as “arrhh-tistic” about it as they would like.

And I found, Here’s my choice: Twiggy, I want to dress up as Twiggy The famous model from the 60s, Twiggy fashions in the 1960s were mainly brief, bare, and daring.

I know that as a plus size woman that it may be look a little strange but its Halloween everything is legitimacy. The supermodel wore everything from miniskirts to shift dresses, go-go boots to funky print dresses, and sequins to plaid. Therefore, my abilities are wide.

Halloween and partying; dressing up in fancy costumes; trick or treating. All these are some of the important aspects of the Halloween season and every year you have a wide range of costume choices. Many of the themes will come from movies and others will be based on classical themes (ghosts and ghouls, historical characters and many other different personalities that come with the witches). This year pirates will again be popular and costumes will include both Pirates of the Caribbean characters as well as traditional (but varied) pirates.

Putting on a costume builds up the suspense and gets you right in the mood. As a pirate you can follow Captain Jack Sparrow or Davy Jones or your own mix of characters, it is fun and it is easy. Experiment with wigs and make-up as well as all the pirate accessories that are available – what about a huge gold earring to set you apart from everybody else?

When you walk into the room, the party should stop for a second as everyone turns around and sees you. Whispers and comments of admiration will follow in your wake as you, the pirate, join the party. There is nothing more fun than dressing up with your friends to really get into the spirit of a birthday party theme! Most kids, even the shy ones, will light up and engage in the fun when given the chance to dress up. Use the instructions below to create a pirate costume and pirate sword for each child to enjoy throughout the party. And the best part is they get to take it home to dress up in whenever the mood fits!

Personalized Pirate Costumes

Pirate Costume Materials:

• 1 ½ yds Black Burlap fabric
• Rope (to tie around tunics)
• Dark T-Shirt Transfer Paper (Inkjet paper)
• Scissors
• Download of the Make It Mine Parties’ Pirate Costume Template (see Resources below). You will use this file to personalize each child’s costume with his/her very own pirate name! With names like “Captain Cole” & “Peg-Legged Jack,” each child will walk the pirate party plank in style. Examples of different pirate names are already formatted…just add each child’s name!
• Download of the Make It Mine Parties’ Pirate Costume Font (See Resources below). This font needs to be installed on your computer in order to create the cool pirate look of the personalized names.

Pirate Costume Instructions:

1. Take black burlap fabric fold in half. Cut 13″ widths of folded fabric. Cut out neckhole on each fold. You now have a pirate tunic ready for personalization. (You can double check the measurement against your own child and make adjustments as needed.)
2. Using the Pirate Costume Template, personalize a pirate name for each child. The birthday child should be “Captain (your child’s name)”. Have fun with the names!
3. Print each name on a sheet of Dark T-Shirt Transfer paper. You can fit as many names on one sheet as possible which will save paper & ink. The black ink will appear gray when it prints. Don’t worry, when the heat of the iron takes effect, it will come off black.
4. Cut around each pirate names and iron each name on the front of each costume. Now each child has their very own pirate tunic! Kids love to get into character and it gets them in the spirit of the pirate theme!
5. Cut lengths of rope for each child to tie around their waist to secure their tunics.

Pirate Swords

There are several affordable options for inflatable swords available from various sources. But for you do-it-yourself-ers out there who love to put a personal spin on it, here is a simple way to make swords that are fun to fight with and don’t hurt anyone.

Pirate Sword Materials:

• Foam insulation pipe covers cut into 30″ lengths. Found at your local hardware store. It is typically used to insulate your pipes from the cold.
• ¾ ” wooden dowels in 8″ lengths
• 1″x 2″ board cut into 4″ lengths
• Silver spray paint

Pirate Sword Instructions:

1. Take 1″x 2″ board & cut into 4″ lengths. Drill ¾” hole in center of each length.
2. Insert one dowel into each hole. Center the board on the dowel so there is an equal length of dowel on either side of 1″x 2″. Glue and let dry. One side of the dowel will be the handle and the other side will hold the foam sword.
3. Insert one end of dowel into foam insulation. Glue and let dry.
4. Once all glue has dried, spray paint each sword with silver spray paint and let dry.
5. For an added activity, you can let the kids decorate their swords with pirate stickers and jewels.

You now have a safe way to fight the pirates or walk the plank!
